SHILLONG : Meghalaya so far remains unaffected by covid-19. The state government’s decision to impose a curfew very early on has paid dividends. Even a day before all of India participated in the janata curfew, or voluntary lockdown, Meghalaya on 21 March ordered a curfew to ensure social distancing, besides quarantining every single person entering the state. Since then, the government has enforced two-day curfews, with a one-day break in between, to keep the state safe.

However, Aldrin Lyngdoh, who worked at a food court in faraway Agra, was an indirect victim of the health crisis. Before committing suicide on 30 March, Lyngdoh took to social media accusing his employers of not paying his salary after sacking him following the nationwide lockdown.
