West Bengal has reported 11 more cases of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, taking the count of the total number of the confirmed Covid-19 patients in the state to 69. State Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha on Saturday informed that no deaths have been recorded since Friday.

Of the 11 new cases, six belong to the same family from North West Bengal and were infected due to direct contact with a Covid-19 victim who passed away earlier this week.

The state has also recorded its first Covid-19 positive case with links to the Nizamuddin case in Delhi. One person from Haldia in Purba Medinipur who had joined the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi has tested positive for coronavirus.

“Bilal Khan, who is an employee of one of our contractors, had tested positive in Haldia. He had returned from Nizamuddin on March 24. Due to the lockdown, no work was done on the berth in which they operate. However, he might have visited the docks. After the Nizamuddin episode came to light, he was immediately tested by the municipality. Due to this case, the contract labours have not come to the port,” the Kolkata Port Trust said in a statement.

Expanding its medical facility for the crisis, the West Bengal government also added that a total of 59 dedicated Covid-19 hospitals, with four in Kolkata alone, have been operationalized across the state.
