Special flights carry over 900 stranded passengers to India from abroad

The number of coronavirus cases has been increasing at an alarming rate in India in the last few days. According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of COVID-19 cases in India has surged to 1,58,333 while the death toll stands at 4,531. Of the total number of cases, 67,692 have recovered from the infection. Maharashtra is the worst affected state with over 56,948 cases.
West Bengal on Thursday resumed its domestic flight services after two months of suspension due to coronavirus-induced lockdown initially with 10 flights. The operations could not be resumed on Monday as the state machinery was involved in relief and restoration work.
Meanwhile, a massive repatriation process is being carried out by India under phase 2 of Vande Bharat Mission to bring stranded Indians back. Shramik special trains and buses are running for migrant workers.
