Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully launched the communication satellite GSAT-30 from French Guiana via Ariane-5 launch vehicle. ISRO launched GSAT-30 at 2.35 am on Friday. Shortly after launching, the upper part of the Ariane-5 VA251 from the GSAT-30 was successfully disassembled and also installed in its fixed class. This is ISRO’s first mission in the year 2020. The GSAT-30 satellite weighs 3357 kg. ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Sivan stated that it is capable of operating in multiple frequencies. It will have access to the Gulf countries, most Asian countries and Australia along the Indian subcontinent.
ISRO said GSAT-30 will replace INSAT-4A and will have greater coverage capacity. He said that the satellite provides coverage to the Indian mainland and islands in the Ku band, Gulf countries in the C band, a large number of Asian countries and Australia. According to ISRO, the GSAT satellite with a mission duration of 30 years is an operational communication satellite for DTH, television uplink and VSAT services. GSAT-30’s communication payload has been specially designed to deploy maximum transponders in this spacecraft. Accordingly, it will be widely used for VSAT networks, television uplinking, teleport services, digital satellite news archiving (DSNG), DTH television services, etc.
