Terror-funding cases: Terrorist Hafiz Saeed convicted, sentenced to jail

Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed was sentenced by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan to five-and-a-half-year imprisonment in two cases. The banned outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawa Ganga has been sentenced by the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court in two cases of terror funding. In both cases, five-and-a-half-and-a-half years have been sentenced to imprisonment, which will run concurrently. A fine of Rs 15,000 has also been imposed on him.
Last week, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) reserved its judgment in two cases related to terrorist funding against Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, the leader of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD). These cases have been filed by the Lahore and Gujranwala branches of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). The case, filed by Gujranwala Chapter of CTD, was initially heard in the Gujranwala ATC, but it was shifted to Lahore on the directions of the Lahore High Court. During the hearing of both the cases, the court recorded the statements of 23 witnesses.
